Results for 2021 YBN Big Day!

The Young Birders Network Big Day is an event for young birders globally to come together in a virtual community and enjoy birding everywhere. Whether it be Argentina or Angola, England or Ecuador, young birders can connect via our common passion: birding. This year we beat our original goal of seeing 1000 species collectively.

This year we had over 150 participants from 13 countries. As a group we saw 45,000 individual birds and in the end we got a cumulative total of 1,377 species.

We averaged 17.2 species per checklist and 82% of all checklists were Traveling. The average checklist lasted 121 minutes. The average participant visited 3.4 locations on the big day, as a group we covered over 350 different locations.

Tell Your Friends!

If you are part of another community of young birders anywhere in the world, be sure to reach out and let them know about this opportunity to collaborate with fellow young birders worldwide! By posting on social media, emailing a friend, or writing to a local birding listserv, you are helping to bring together the global community of young birders.
