YBN Big Day

The Young Birders Network Big Day is an event for young birders globally to come together in a virtual community and enjoy birding everywhere. Whether it be Argentina or Angola, England or Ecuador, young birders can connect via our common passion: birding. Join the community of young birders working together in this challenge! Also, don’t forget to submit photos and videos of your day in the field. Some of the most outstanding of these will be featured on this page and on our social media channels after the day!

How to Submit Your Birds for the Day:

Before May 8, register using the English,  Español, Português, or Deutsch form. It will ask for your name, age, and location. There will be recognition for the participants who record the most species within their age category, so be sure to fill that out. Additionally, there will be a question asking if you have an eBird account, or have access to create one. Because eBird is a platform where everyone can see the collective progress of everyone participating, that is the platform that will be used to compile all of the data, photos, and other media.

After registering, an email will be sent to you with the username for the Young Birders Network eBird account (and if you do not have an eBird account, the password will be sent along also). Throughout the day, submit checklists to eBird from wherever you happen to be birding, and then share those checklists with the Young Birders Network eBird account using the username provided. Throughout the day, it will be possible to check on the collective progress of everyone else participating so be sure to check in often. And at the end of the day, if we have seen 990 species, don’t forget to go owling!
